There's a tiny little filter hanging right up near the top for water movement. It has a little piece of sponge, filter floss and a tiny amount of carbon inside. It gums up pretty fast, but it provides enough movement to keep the surface well oxygenated and clear of algae. It's tempting to throw some glass shrimp in there. If they weren't eaten maybe they'd breed.
