As far as I remember, once you put the skimmer together (if it's apart), then all you have to do is raise or lower that vertical pipe. It will probably take a few tries, but after its broken in, you can raise it to make wetter skimmate or lower it to make thicker skimmate. I usually set it wet & then after a while, lower it a bit & see how well it skims.
