It's got some coloring up to do but it definitely looks like a pokerstar to me. It's suppose to be blue with green polyps, but SPS color can vary from tank to tank so you may get more purple than...

Yeah still somewhat disappointing, the nano contest ends in April, still plenty of time in the new year. It just seems like you're giving up a little too easy, and still awfully quick to start a new...

I have to say I'm a little disappointed you managed to find time for this new tank but not the 10gal. A lot of people were looking forward to that 10 gal including myself. Oh well you got yourself a...

It's a little high, I usually pay about $5 a square foot including cutting and I find glass prices to be higher in Sask than in Alberta. The high price is probably a result from the small order.

Nah not really any interest in other food. I've read of others having success with frozen food but it's extremely rare.

Fish is doing really good so far, he prefers acropora to other types of sps and only eats the polyps but from all parts of the coral. Corals are not showing any sign of stress but they definitely...

You have to look for the pouch on the male. Follow the front body line from the belly to the tail. A smooth slope is the result from a pouch and therefore a male. If it's more like a sharp step you...

Have to agree with Steve there, my nano never cycled, I had livestock in it instantly so it is possible to avoid a cycle depending on how you do things. Also with the DSB, you may want to list some...

I just don't think you should make such an emphasis on stating it's the "right" way. What's right for you isn't always right for everyone else. Plus I find this a little amusing since it kind of...

Not necessarily, I'm saying the size of the overflow is more dependent on the flow rate than anything else and that bigger isn't always better. Practical experience and results, including your own...

I find similar results with my tank. The overflow has about 10" of linear distance and at my standard flow rate of about 1200GPH it works great but if I reduce the flow same deal, I get a scum build...

Yeah that's the basic idea, if the overflow is too small water will rise above it to the point the majority of the water is taken from below the surface. However I don't think we run that kind of...

Yeap I know what you're getting at but again like I said before theirs obviously a limit to how small the overflow can be. If you compare a 40' overflow to a 4' overflow of course the 40' will work...

I'm aware of the calfo overflow design and I've used it before but didn't see the results of better surface skimming. Increasing the linear distance doesn't increase velocity, how could it since...

I know what you're getting at but a single overflow still won't produce turbulent flow, it will still be laminar so a higher velocity would still be better. Ideally you would want the smallest...

Do you need two overflows? I know it seems to be common practice to run two on larger tanks and correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you get better surface skimming with one overflow? Reasoning for...
