As far as getting rid of it goes, there's this stuff called RedX and another called Red Slime Remover by Ultralife that kills it almost overnight.

I tried it, all the bells and whistles too (plastic shavings, macaroni, yadda, yadda), it was gay. I prefer the look of the real thing. Additionally, you get all these cool things in real live rock....
