Brown slime on Flower Pot
Light brown slimy stuff on a flower pot coral. I rinsed it off but it came right back. Any ideas?

Sounds like brown jelly disease which is not a good thing:(
Here is some infor on it. Every coral i have had that got it died unfortunety. http://www.athiel.com/lib/bacterial.html Good luck Craig |
I think your right....

Get some lugols and follow the directions and dip it. Also definetly suction it off of it.
After thinking about it i had one survive and it is huge now. The problem is that it can spread to other corals so do what you need to quickly. Craig |
And unfortunately, Goniopora (which I'm assuming you're talking about) doesn't have a very high survival rate with brown jelly.
If you know how to frag it, now might be a good time. |
For reference: http://goniopora.org/fragmentation.htm
And from that site, as well: "Treat the coral by removing it from the tank and place it in a container with an iodine solution. Gently blow the brown jelly off while the coral is in the solution AFTER removing it from the display tank." |
I put the coral in an isolation tank...to little to late I think its totally covered now. It happened so fast!!! Moved it from one tank to the other & within a couple of hours.....so sad!

When I had it a few years ago it spread like wildfire, it was amazing how fast it destroyed everything it touched! I got rid of it by using Lugols, it worked great for me. Good luck.

When I was new to the hobby I would buy then do the bulk of my research... it seems as though this is the fate of most goni's that are kept in tanks... It happened to me :(
