Edm Mega J&L Salt Order

This topic is split from another thread http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9394.

I am going to do a huge salt order from J&L for Edmonton and area reefers. IO and Kent 200g pails of salt are available at $49.95 each. I did a 20 pail salt order from J&L a few years back. They will ship large quantities on a pallet by truck. All I need is someone with a van or truck to help pick up the order when it arrives. Truck depot, if they use the same shipping company, is in the west end.

I am going to pick up 9-10 pails of Kent or IO. Either is fine with me. Don't know if J&L can ship both brands of salt on one pallet, but will ask.

Who else is in and how many pails of what kind of salt do you want? Remember, salt will store for a long time if left unopened, that's why I want to do a large order for our reef's needs over the coming months.

From the other thread, a few folks in Calgary were interested in getting in on this order. I think it may be better if you all get together an order to be shipped directly to Calgary. That way no one has to shlep up to Edmonton to pick up your order. If there isn't enough interest down south to do a large order, you are all most welcome to add to the Edmonton order.

I am also going to do a dry goods order at the same time. Folks wanting to get in on the dry goods order are welcome to piggy back their stuff with mine, and we can split shipping costs.

I hope to have the order made by May 15th.

Who is in and what do you want?

Nemain 05-02-2004 04:52 PM

Salt

~ 2 pails of IO.

Dry goods:

~ Pinpoint salinity monitor and ac adapter

~ Salfert Cacium Test

~ Maxi Jet 900

I've just discovered that J&L has a sale on all Kent additives, carbons and resins

Bob I 05-02-2004 11:25 PM

I will see what Quinn does. He could maybe shlep up to Edmonton, and I could shlep up to Lacombe. As far as a Calgary order goes, I don't even want to try. Whenever someone tries it always seems to go awry.

Beverly 05-03-2004 01:36 AM

boB,

I thought you folks down there were very organized, more so than us up here  Anyone from Calgary is welcome to come aboard on this order, though, if it coordinates with Quinn and the Calgarians involved.

Quinn 05-03-2004 04:18 AM

I would be willing to transport salt. However, I don't know when I'll be in Edmonton next. For now, cancel my order for one bucket until further notice as I may have more than I thought.

jgoldsney 05-04-2004 04:33 PM

I will be in for at least 2 pails...Possibly 3

My brother in law is just getting in to SW and he may want to order a bucket, I passed thie info on and will let ya know.

Re: Edm Mega J&L Salt Order

Just got a reply from J&L about shipping costs for 20 pails of IO:

The cost to ship 20 pails via Reimer express would be $163.61. You would have to pick it up at the trucking company.

So, for each pail at $49.95 plus $3.50 GST, shipping would be $8.18 for a total per pail of $61.63. Sure beats Edmonton prices.

I was also quoted shipping costs via UPS for 5 pails of IO:

The cost to ship 5 pails via UPS would be $115.41.

For each pail at $49.95 plus $3.50 GST, shipping would be $23.00 for a total per pail of $76.45

Much cheaper by far getting a big order

Who else is in? Who can meet us at Reimer, in the west end, with a truck, van or big car to help pick up the salt?

Nemain 05-05-2004 12:54 AM

I can bring the company truck NP. Just give me a date so I can book it off ( everyone else borrows it all thetime too :P)

Beth

Beverly 05-05-2004 12:43 PM

Cool, Beth. Thanks. I will be putting the order in on May 15 and will let you know when arrival will be. If I remember correctly from the shipment we did a few years ago, Reimer, in the west, end closes at 5 pm or so. Can you make it there by then?

Nemain 05-05-2004 01:43 PM

Not a problem. Just need to know date and time. I can leave work and grab it =)

Beth

Beverly 05-06-2004 01:50 PM

So far, the salt order is:

- 9 pails for Beverly
- 2 pails for Beth
- 2-3 pails Joel (still need confirmation here)
- 1 pail for Leeanne
- 4 pails for friends not on Canreef

Total 18-19 pails so far along with some dry goods. Dry goods will probably be shipped separately and shipping will likely be free because the order looks like it will be over $200

Anyone else want in on the salt?

jgoldsney 05-06-2004 02:28 PM

Ok I am in for 2 pails for sure...

As far as my Brother in law I will get conformation from him tonight.

Joel

rodsboys 05-06-2004 02:39 PM

I will take a pail as well.

Beverly 05-06-2004 02:48 PM

With Tony, in, that makes 19 or 20 pails.

If Joel's brother in law wants a pail, that'll take up the 20 pail order, in which case I think I'll order everything within the next few days.

jgoldsney 05-06-2004 03:14 PM

ahh what the heck, I'll take 3 and if he wants one he can get one of mine :)

Joel

ABreefkpr 05-06-2004 03:24 PM

Is it to late to get an order in for two pails?

Keith

Beverly 05-06-2004 03:36 PM

Keith,

It might be, as we are already at 20 pails. I just shot off an email to J&L to find out the limit of pails that can be shipped on one pallet. Will let you know when they reply.

Beverly 05-06-2004 05:47 PM

J&L said the limit for a pallet would be 24 pails, so Keith if you want two pails, you're in

Room for 2 more pails now, too, if anyone else wants some

With that much weight to shlep from the loading dock and into vehicles, then into storage for folks to pick up, it would be great to have another strong person and vehicle help pick up the salt. Anyone? Tony, do you think you can help us with your van? Please???

Nemain 05-06-2004 06:38 PM

if it is on a pallet they can just use the forklift....

Then I can come to the shop and get the forklift to take it off. People can come and get it here during business hours, or on Saturdays, or I can bring a pail or so home for pick up there.

Beth

Beverly 05-06-2004 09:30 PM

Beth,

Your truck is large enough to accomodate a pallet? Holy cow

However, Chris and I want to take our 9 pails home with us. Plus, we're paying for the whole thing and I kinda want to get money from folks when they pick up their salt

jgoldsney 05-06-2004 09:42 PM

Hmmm just an abstract thought.....is there some way that we could send our $$ to Beverly via Paypal?

This way she would have her $$ up front.

Just a thought.

Joel

bulletsworld 05-06-2004 11:28 PM

Hey Bev,

did you mark me down for 1 pail as per my PM. Just checking...

Actually is it too late to get 1 more. So a total of 2 pails?

let me know, thanks a bunch

Lee

Beverly 05-07-2004 12:33 AM

Leanne,

Yup, had marked you down for one pail. You want two? Done.

Here is the current list:

- 9 pails for Beverly
- 2 pails for Beth
- 3 pails Joel
- 2 pails for Leeanne
- 1 pail for Tony
- 2 pails for Keith
- 4 pails for friends not on Canreef

Total of 23 pails! One more and we have a full pallet

Joel,

Don't know how anyone else feels about the Paypal thing, but some people are also getting dry goods and I won't know exactly how much their stuff will cost until I get the invoice with the goods. That part might be a little confusing with Paypal. Plus, the feeling of cold hard cash in my hands is sooooo great

Beth,

What is the height of your truck? I was thinking maybe it could come down into our parking garage if it will fit through the overhead door and we'd store the salt in our storage space. Folks could drive down into the garage to pick up their salt.

Nemain 05-07-2004 01:25 AM

It is a pick up, can you get an est. wieght on it, if the truck cant haul it alone, I can hitch up the trailer - it will fit into parking garages. The problem is that I will only have about an hour max, so if we are going to unload it right away it will have to be fast, unless you can get it delivered on a wednesday =)

Beth

Beverly 05-07-2004 02:11 AM

Beth,

Each pail weighs 65 lbs. Man that was heavy lifting it onto the scale  So 24 x 65 lbs is 1,560 lbs. Remember, we will have our car so we can take as many as 7 pails ourselves. If only Chris goes, he can pack the car with 9 pails. I think it would be better if I come, too, to carry pails. Sheesh! What a lot of freaking work  I'm sure the guys at Reimer will help load up, though. They did last time.

I will find out from J&L when I order if we can have Wednesday delivery, and if not, if Reimer will store it until the next available Wednesday.

BT 05-07-2004 03:04 PM

I will take a pail or what ever is left to fill the pallet.
BT

Beverly 05-07-2004 03:24 PM

ALL 24 pails have been ordered by:

- 9 pails for Beverly
- 2 pails for Beth
- 3 pails Joel
- 2 pails for Leeanne
- 1 pail for Tony
- 2 pails for Keith
- 1 pail for BT
- 4 pails for friends not on Canreef

If I have time this pm, I will order our salt and dry goods. YIPPEEEEE!!!!

jgoldsney 05-07-2004 03:31 PM

Just another thought :)

I know in the past on group orders that I have done from JL with other reefers we have been able to call in and give Alan a CC number to pay for our individual portions. This may make the dry goods stuff simpler.

I think that it would make it easier on Beverly if all she has to worry about is salt. (Of course this is easy for me to say because I am not ordering any dry goods (so far that is))

Joel

Beverly 05-07-2004 03:43 PM

Joel,

It hasn't been a problem for me paying for all the dry goods people have ordered in the past, then collecting from folks when they pick up their stuff. I'll take cash, but no cheques, though.

If anyone does order and want to pay J&L for their dry goods ahead of time, talk to John. Tell him that your stuff is to be shipped with the Chris Gregors' order, my DH, who is the one who has the account with J&L, even though I will make the order.

Also, if anyone does order their own stuff to be shipped with the Chris Gregors order, let me know so I don't order it twice

If you want dry goods, let me know asap as I will probably order everything this pm.

Beverly 05-07-2004 10:54 PM

Order has been made. Will let you all know when dry goods and salt are ready for pick up.

Beverly 05-11-2004 10:10 PM

Just spoke with J&L. Salt should be here next Wednesday, May 19th. Pick up for salt can begin the next evening and can be arranged by PMing me. Best time for pick up week nights is between 5:00 and 8 pm. Weekends, mornings between 10 and 11:30, afternoons between 3 and 8 pm.

Dry goods order should be sent out later this week or early next week. Hopefully both will arrive at about the same time so folks can pick up both salt and dry goods together.

Beverly 05-17-2004 09:57 PM

One of two boxes of dry goods arrived today. Don't know about the second box, though  Maybe tomorrow.....

Salt got into a bit of a snafu and will be ready for pick up NEXT Wednesday. Is that okay for you, Beth?

Nemain 05-17-2004 11:05 PM

Works fine for me =)

Beverly 05-18-2004 02:06 AM

Beth,

Will PM or call you with pick up details when I get them.

Second box of dry goods showed up tonight  Will open them tomorrow and figure out how much everyone owes.

Nemain 05-18-2004 02:31 AM

Thank you Bev =) It is much appreciated =)

Beth

Beverly 05-19-2004 03:58 PM

$49.95 per pail, each pail plus GST = $53.45
Shipping costs for 24 pails = $182.88, per pail = $7.62

TOTAL COST per pail = $61.07:

- 9 pails for Beverly plus dry goods = too much to calculate
- 2 pails for Beth plus dry goods = $122.14 +$260.38 = $382.52
- 3 pails Joel = $183.21
- 2 pails for Leeanne = $122.14
- 1 pail for Tony = $61.07
- 2 pails for Keith = $122.14
- 1 pail for BT = $61.07
- 4 pails and dry goods for friends not on Canreef = $40.61 + $244.28 = $284.89

Beth, Chris and I will hopefully be loading the salt Wed, May 26 and bringing it to our place to be stored until pickup in our secure storage area next to our underground parking space. Anyone else interested in helping load and offload the salt is welcome to participate. PM me if you want to lug a few pails of salt  The more the merrier

Folks wanting to pick up their salt may do so by prearranging a time by phoning me at 481-1313. Pick up will be weekday evenings, beginning Thursday, from 5 pm to 8 pm, weekend hours are flexible.

Cash only. Please have correct change. Thanks!!!!

Beverly 05-27-2004 01:14 AM

Thanks to Leeanne and her boyfriend, Beth, me and DH Chris for picking up the salt tonight  Went like a charm with all those bodies

Everyone, pick up your salt
