Where do you store your RO/DI water??
So where do you guys store your freshly made or back up RO/DI water?
Is there any home hardware store that sells those big plastic rectangular containers where you can store liquids? haven't had much luck finding any place that sells them. |
I just use the brute trash cans for holding water and mix tanks. As to finding the storage tanks you want try ufa depending on the size you want.

Do you just go inside and ask for the blue food barrel?

I also use the grey Brute trash can with lid. Home Depot sells them and you can get them in 20gal, 30 gal and 50 gal I believe. The code on the bottom verifies they are food safe.

I use the brute 20 gallon bins from Home Depot I have 2 of them one for salt one for fresh I also have 5 five gallon pails for water changes and storing all my salt water stuff all of which is stored in an unused corner in my kitchen.
You can also go to many restaurants and ask to get pails and buckets from them as almost all their buckets and pails are food grade and generally don't reuse them and end up being tossed. Best places to get them from are places like Boston Pizza, Pizza Hut, Moxie's, Tony Roma's and any others that go through a lot of product weekly just ask for the manager or kitchen boss. Try to stay away from Asian restaurants though as many tend to use strong chemicals to kill bacteria as many of their products are kept raw and generally not frozen to maintain freshness and may contain trace materials harmful to an aquarium. |
Industrial Paints and Plastics is good but it can be pretty expensive too.

I've been using a plastic Rubbermaid 'Roughneck' rectangular storage container for years. Comes with a hinged lid & holds about 23 gallons comfortably. Not even sure if it's considered food safe but haven't had any issues with it in that regard. Drilled a small opening near the top, added a JG bulkhead & the RODI feeds directly into it. I also mix up fresh saltwater in it for water changes. Although I do have a number of the food safe white & blue drums shown in this thread, I use most of them as rain barrels. Also use one to collect RODI waste water for various uses around the house & garden rather than sending all that water down the drain. The city charges quite a bit for water around here these days & at the ratio of 1 to 4 good to waste that most RO membranes work on, the waste water adds up in a hurry.
An alternative I haven't seen mentioned here, is that any spare aquarium tank you have kicking around would make an ideal water storage vessel. |
I went to Johnson plastics and picked up two thirty five gallon barrels( in Edmonton).

I use a grey Rubbermaid trash bin as well.vi think it's 45 gal. It had a sticker on it when I bought it saying the city of Edmonton would not empty them as they are too big. I have my rodi plumbed to a mechanical float used for cattle waterers from ufa. Works well and holds around 35gal.
