Blue Skimmate?
i woke up this morning and looked at my skimmer and the skimmate is blueish green.
anyone know what would cause this? everything in the tank looks normal http://i579.photobucket.com/albums/s...5at10215PM.png |
Did a Smurf fall in overnight?:twised::wink::lol:
|
Prob something you added
What did you add to the tank yesterday? Spirulina brine? Formula 2 pellets? Mint schnapps?
|
might not be getting gas check the feul lines...hehe;)
|
no idea what it could be. didnt feed anything by NLS pellets yesterday
|
your skimmer is running somewhat wet. that is what that is I have it all the time with my skimmer its pulling nutrients out while running somewhat wet.

but still cant understand why blue. if its skimming wet, its usually a light brown |
Well your filter sock was washed in what that would be why it's going all bubbly

Another reefing mystery. Perhaps you have a very light outbreak of green algae?

thats why I said light outbreak. the stuff in our skimmer is pretty concentrated, you would likely not see it in the water column. hopefully the carbon helps though
|
any chance some "little one" could have put something in the tank or sump???:noidea:

I've found that the colour of my skimmate is directly related to the colour of the pellets I feed.
|
Christmas skimate... not uncommon this time of year

Seems obviously wet. |

You change food and the color changes??? Mine is nothing close to my pellet color. I would say coincidence. Not matter what I feed... Green. Maybe you over feed ha ha. Joke. |
Food
I maintain about 50 tanks... Change in Pellet colour in almost every tank results in change of skim mate colour
|
I've never fed anything but brown nls pellets

I used red flakes (prime reef) for about two years. Still green. Interesting. How is it today Marko? |
I adjusted it. It's thick and black :)
|
To me it looks like some algae concentrated in there. Maybe some green/blue cyanobacterias? They can be quite colorful. As long as there is none in the water that is concentrated enough to be visible I would not worry.
Are you dosing any carbon? |

I would suspect some algae in your tank sporulated which would also explain why your skimmer is wetter then usual

Food
Paddyob
Some more than others... Cyclopeeze, formula 2, spirulina brine, and tetra colour pellets are some of the ones you notice more. Foods like prime reef flakes from ocean nutrition have a pretty bland color to them, so you won't notice it as much. Also Markod, start feeding a bit of variety... Nls pellets are great, but variety is the spice of life. Hikari is releasing a new couple of foods into our market January. Keep a watch for them, very clean pellets and the fish love em. |
it happens to me when there is food left overs
or if i forgot to remove whats not eaten in the clip rooggers reef food or my pellets the next day, for sure my skimmate is neon green or blue |
No I mean like dosing vodka or other carbon source :)
