My New Skimz Monzter E Series Skimmer Arrived Today!

We it took about two weeks to get it but the wait is finally over! I know these are coming to North America soon but I couldn't wait so I ordered one right from Singapore.

It arrived well packaged

It has a twist style neck with rubber O ring

Here is the Pump

Water level control

Some very nice acrylic work and compact size for a skimmer rated up to 200 Gal

That's when I noticed the crack!

http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/DSC_2338.jpg

I sent Skimz an email with pictures showing the damage. I guess now I get to find out what their customer service is like. I was hoping to get it running right away but I guess I better wait for their reply. They have been very good to deal with up till now so I hope it all works out.

I really like how there are nylon threads to remove from the base. Means you can run this thing in a pretty tight and shallow stand and still be able to remove the body for cleaning.

The break isn't through to the reaction chamber is it? Won't a little bit of weldon fix that up nice and not effect performance? I'm sure you want what you paid for though...

fkshiu 09-10-2010 05:16 AM

How much was it?

viperfish 09-10-2010 05:21 AM

The reaction chamber wasn't affected at all, I could run it just fine as it is but like you said I paid for a new skimmer so I expect it to arrive in that condition or Skimz should do something to make it right. They have been very friendly, sent lots of emails, and followed up with me after they had shipped it. I am confident they'll take care of it.

Delphinus 09-10-2010 05:25 AM

What tank will you be running this one on?

I am in the process of upgrading my Seahorse tank. The new tank is a 27 Gal cube. I know it seems overkill but I wanted a large capacity skimmer with a small footprint because Seahorses will pollute a tank faster than any fish I have seen. They have to be fed often and produce a lot of waste because of their short digestive tract. I wanted a skimmer that will keep up (and I couldn't resist buying one), I also wanted one that will be suitable for the next upgrade which I know will come very soon.

Looks sexy...

The skimmer you bought is directly from Singapore? For I just purchased a cone skimmer BM200 Bubblepioneer (Singapore) from Hong Kong 2 weeks ago.

It is from Singapore. It's surprising how quickly things ship from there.

If you have the sample why not post a picture of it instead of a copy/paste from the website.

Aqua-Digital 10-09-2010 12:20 PM

The buy direct route was put in place by Skimz while they were still finalizing contracts with their global partners, now they are getting them in place there will no longer be a need for the direct route and this will be removed, otherwise whats the point of having a global distribution/dealer network :) .

pm us for details in regards to dealers and orders.

Good question ;) Because its with a dealer and I beleive now sold, we received one of each model plus a prototype for us to send to dealers for evaluation prior to taking on the line.

The new version is $299.00

We do also have the old style SM121 here as well same as yours, this was sent to us as a prototype model.

But here is its sister I just assembled at home, this is the SM161. I have also posted below the manual showing what version model numbers come in this series, including the New SM121

I've contacted Aquamarin to find out why they sent me the older model. Just waiting on a reply to my email. As I said before these guys have been awesome. When I received my skimmer with a crack in the base they had a new body/base/bubble plate at my door in a week free of charge. Any time I have a question they reply almost instantly. I've waited longer for things to ship from the next province than I have from these guys.

Skimmerking 10-09-2010 03:12 PM

So to trial the SM251 how much are they is there a prototype for them Mike,.

Aqua-Digital 10-09-2010 03:21 PM

double post

Aqua-Digital 10-10-2010 09:00 PM

Well Skimz gave us wrong info on Friday and have the wrong pictures on the websites as well :(

What medhatreefguy got turns out to actually be the production model :) Here is the email from Skimz

What the customer receive and what you had and will receive will be the same.
What you saw on the blog was only a prototype. We are unable to fit the pump into the 120cm body so the design for sm121 is what you received. Our website team will be making clarification on our blog soon.
Thank you and Regards,

This is totally opposite to what they told us on Friday but hey ho :(

Sorry for the confusion  , however least now Skimz can actually update their marketing and info they give their distributors will finally be accurate :(

On the plus side, even if it did turn out that a wrong version had been sent, as the distributors we would of personally switched it for you, it would be only fair to do so. But thankfully all seems to be as it should be except for their marketing.

However the SM161 onwards will be as per my posted photo this is because the body is wide enough to fit the pump inside, unlike the SM121.

viperfish 10-12-2010 01:32 PM

Thanks for the update on this, Aqua-Digital. I was sent this link http://www.skimz.sg/blog/?p=1019.

Aqua-Digital 10-12-2010 01:43 PM

No problem. I had a long conversation with them over this and pleased to see they acted quickly in updating the info on their blog. We have now also updated this info with the dealers.

Doug is going to be reviewing this model soon so will be interesting to see a comparative view.
