Glass cutting?
 

So ,I want to cut 0.5inch glass. I've got 6'x2'x2' , and now I want to chop it all up. It's not tempered , and thier's no plastic (no fire). Then I'd like to drill? "looking for postive NOT negative reinforcement" Thanks and Happy New Year ,Nano

A buddy of mine zipped through some 1/2" glass with a wet tile saw. Slow and steady...I've also had another friend to the score and snap technique....sometimes that worked, sometimes it didn't.

As for drilling, 1/2" glass is super easy to drill as it is so hard to crack IME.

I just finished cutting 4 holes for my 65gal tank with the "el cheapo" dremel bits from Lee Valley. I'm also going to cut a few panels of 1/4" glass here shortly to make the internal overflow. Good luck with your project and enjoy it.

Was the "el cheapo" bits located in the La'bargoon area?

The powerfist brand ones from princess auto work really well also - kits run under 20$ (the 8pc kit i'm using was like 9$)

I want to drill 2 of my tank so I can plumb them together do you guys think its safe to drill my tank it a two 55g tank from petsmart????

Are the tanks tempered? If it is, then don't do it. If not, and you are confident enough, then go for it.

TAnks don't have any sign if it tempered or not.. How can I tell???

If you know the brand name of the aquarium, e-mail the manufacturer. They'll be able to tell you everything you need to know. I was in the same position with my 65gal Perfecto. They sent me a reply with glass thicknesses and whether or not I'd be able to drill the number of holes, size of holes, hole spacing that I wanted to have.

If you get the proper tool to score the glass, and are careful (might take a little practice too) then score and crack should work great, this is how window companies cut glass, with a machine that scores and breaks it.

The "best" way to drill is with a diamond drill bit on a stationary drill. This is how I have drilled my sumps, the bit is expensive but pays for itself in the end, and it is just cool to drill your own glass. It is definately possible with a rotary tool though, I read the same post on RC.

You can get the bit's cheap on ebay. They come out of hong kong and work well.

Which bits, rotary tool cutting bits, or diamond drill bits?
