They are nice units in design , low profile ,HQI which produce less heat than mogals .....
I bought three 250watt 14K Reef star units ,got a good deal on them too. Now the bad news....none of the units would fire up at first , after an hour they did though. One flickered and the bulb blew up, then after getting another bulb and trying it again ,sparks threw every where and blew another bulb. Took the lamp apart to find that there was no wire connecter cover on one of the wires ( and I don't mean it just fell off or was loose ,it was missing all together ) After fixing that problem and geting another bulb , now the ballast wouldn't work .. One problem after another and several trips to the LFS ( I won't say which one)( but I will say they were VERY helpful with this problem though, but it puts everyone in a hard spot, Which I didn't like!!) AS for dealing with Hamilton Teck they were of NO HELP AT ALL! They already have been paid and WE are in Canada ,so there view is tough luck and when you or your LFS calls ,they will just give you the run around. IMO, Hamilton Teck have no quality control, probably kids puting the things to gether, and they don't care! And they don't test there unit before shipping them off. I have since took all three units apart and found other problems |

I've got the same unit, 250w 14,000k HQI, looks great nice blue and tons of light. The HQI ballast runs much cooler than the old magnetic ballasts.

I was going to get a Hamilton Reefsun pendent. I was told by the LFS that Hamilton wasn't a good product.
I would recommend PFO Lighting. Keith |

uh oh...is there anything wrong with that light other than what's stated above? cause that's the one i bought from king eds  should i be concerned? it seems to work fine for me so far...

There is nothing wrong with the units, you may want to change to a different bulb in the future as the Hamiltons are not highly regarded. I've never had an issue with one but some people don't like them, like some people don't like certain power heads. If you like the unit then it's all good.

just like doug said, some people prefer different brands. i, myself have bought a coralvue setup and i'm pleased with it.

yea, the deal at kinged's has got me thinking about these units
thanks for the replies so far! |
Hey guys , It's just that I found some quality problems with Hamilton Teck, and I have some electical experience and found that they cut some corners in quality in all Three units I bought. Like using 3 or 4 short peices of wire instead one ,that could have been used that only 6inches long anyways.
I would just not recomend them . |
Oh, I didn't buy them at King Eds
