Local Club
Thoughts have been kicked around for a long time about something locally here in Vancouver, we just need some one to take charge and lead us lazy people Here is a link to a page with names of many local reefers that would be interested in one. Any leaders out there?

Hello Scott,
Has anyone on your list contacted you with ideas? Issues like: 1) would it be registered with the provincial government? 2) is it a regular meeting type, or meet on line type? 3) does it have a function such as a site with volunteers supporting other members? arranging for order pooling, etc? um.... What you see is what you get. I know Darren has taken some initiative on the Island, maybe he can do the same here?

Well Scott. You are in luck. I am moving to Van shortly. I may be starting classes at BCIT in Sept. So once I am over I can give you a hand seeting something up.
how does that sound? Darren |

Is anyone involved with the Vancouver aquarium? We could try to meet there, or at least have someone there involved.
Just a thought. |

Hello ruck'n'reefer,
Yeah. I always wanted to see the backstage of the system running at the Vancouver aquarium. Gotta wonder how they keep all thier livestock going. If you guys are going to the aquarium, I think we can get a group pass. Or if we are going as a club, maybe special prices of some sort. Oh well, let's see what happens. I hate to arrange things these days as I'm kinda permanently glued to my computer programming. Titus |

I know that there is/was a FW club that met at the Van Aquarium once a month. I will try to contact someone at the Aq.on Monday. Maybe we can meet there and get to see the insides for free.

or maybe we can have it a little more centralized depending on where most of the members live. Maybe surrey or burnaby etc.
|
Local Club
I have some contacts down at the aquarium, I'd enjoy going down there sometime as a group but I'm with FarmerJo: a more centralized meeting place would be better. We have people out in Chilliwack that would like to be there.

Well,Im in.....
I know if you are a registered(aquatic)buisness you can go behind the scenes for free at the Vancouver Aquarium,as i did that about three months ago....only problem was they only have one reef display, and im afriad most of us have about the same amount of equipment behind the tank! But still definatly a nice display though, and a good meeting place for a local club! Marc |

I think that if we ever get organized we should try and meet at a LFS (J&L in Coquitlam, Big Al's in Burnaby or Animal House in Chilliwack) for the first couple of meetings and then if people feel comfortable I think a monthly or so rotation of visiting each others tanks would be great. I think when the numbers finally come in there is a strong showing from the Abottsford and Chilliwack areas, who would have ever guessed?

I'm with you Scott, a rotation would be great because I really do believe that there is a strong presence from the Abbotsford and Chilliwack.

How about calling the club the Lower Mainland reef club. Also, maybe we should poll the members and ask what night of the week would be good and then just call a general membership meeting at one of the sites. From that point we can discuss the finer details. That worked fine when we organized our local riding club.
|
Local Club
another idea to think about might be to have the occasional meeting at a member's house so that we can see what each other's doing. We can also learn from each other that way.

I agree with the monthly rotation all we need is a volinteer I would love to but I work afternoons so kinda tuff if a saturday or sunday is good then lets do it I'm willing to be the one that everyone points and laughs about there tank

Well as for a club name and such I still have everything from setting up the club here in Vic. Web pages etc. It wouldn't be ahrd to swap it all over to say Vancouver. Scott and I discussed it a while ago.

The web page looks very good, I think it would be an excellent start Darren.

Hi Jamie, I would love to see your tank. I don't know if you remember but I met you at Paul's (LFS) a couple of years ago. It sounded to me like you had a pretty nice set up, I don't think there will be too much laughing. I'd prefer weekends myself. If you are willing then why don't we try for a Saturday or Sunday. What do the rest of you think?
Thanks for volunteering! |

Ok here is an idea. Once I move over I will use the exisiting Victoria web site and set up a dual city club. That way we can easily get in touch with the other guys and gals across the water. One web site for the two. same name and all that stuff. I will host the page. that is no problem. and keep it up. how does that sound for a start.. for those who haven't seen the Vic web site here it is..

I would definetly be interested. Heck the more help, the better for all. God knows that no one wants to ship detritivore kits to Canada so swaping would always help.
Also you are all invited to my house to see my 33 gallon, but only once it's all done and looks nice (so far I have a little cyano problem 8-( ) |

hey troy yeah I remember you, been a long time.well I have heard alot about the idea of setting up a group for along time now and well I am intrested in how many people really want to be a part of something like this. like I said I would be willing to host the first meeting and we can go from there I think the main concern is getting together so this can move forward with this later jamie

Hey! A reef club sounds great! I'm on the island but I would certainly think about coming over if you guys met once a month or something. Does anyone know if there is an island reef club?? I've only been in this for about 3-4 months so I don't think I would have any great input but I'd love to get any info from you experienced people
