    Hi Melanie,
The "faulty" bulb shouldn't be faulty. we had it in the light fixture to make sure it worked. You have to really push on the white clip until it clicks in. We ordered them off of Ebay. You are correct with the 250W 20,000K. doesn't matter what brand you use, so long as the connectors on the bulbs are the same.

These three links are the light bulbs that you need. You shouldn't put anything more than 250W in the fixture, But the more Blue you want the higher the K you need, so if you want something more natural you might be looking at 14,000K. The bluer the light the more vibrant the colours.

I would try the faulty light bulb again, When putting it in just make sure its in all the way. Otherwise, I'm really sorry about any conflicting information you've had. I hope your enjoying the tank set up. and please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Sara,

Sorry to bug you but I am in need of help with bulbs. I am at the point of replacing them and am having great difficulty....

The hood had a "blue" and "white" bulb in them when I took the tank home. I removed the whiter colored bulb and replaced it with the extra "blue" bulb you had separately in a box. The extra bulb only partially turns on when in the hood. You need to actually touch it with a cloth or fabric of some sort in order to get it going. For the time being I put the white bulb back in and it works fine. The only writing I could find on any of the bulbs was the extra blue (faulty??) bulb odyssea 250W 20,000k bulb. The other two bulbs have no writing on them.

Do you have any idea what brand of bulb you were using before? Or where you purchased them? I cannot find any information about the brand of lighting hood or the types of ballasts I am using. I am usually very resourceful however, there is no writing on anything and I am at a complete loss. There is also a lot of conflicting information about probe start bulbs/ electronic ballasts, etc.

Any info you could give me would be fantastic.

    Thanks,
    Melanie
