Walt Smith Fiji project
Hello Canreef,
having spent the last 3 weeks diving in Fiji(Beqa Lagoon and Astrolab Reef), i can say it is at the beginings of the degradation of the reefs of northern Fiji have suffered. My speaking to Fijian staff, school kids or villagers had limited impacted without giving them the direct benefits of reef conservation — but Walt Smith is doing just that. I was wondering if Canreef can match what the Washington Reefers just accomplished - a generous donation to the Walt Smith Fiji project: https://reefbuilders.com/2017/12/20/...coral-farmers/ fyi, im going to MACNA 2018 in Vegas, we cud be a host club? |

Aquaculture Development for the Environment
Hello CanReefer's
The Aquaculture Development for the Environment project is very important for the health of Fiji's coral reefs. Healthy Coral Reefs support villages which depend on them for food fish and provides corals that we love to keep in our aquariums. The video that Walt Smith produced for the ADE project is well worth the time to look at. Here is a link for more information on the ADE project and an amazing video. https://www.adeproject.org/ade-video-launch/ SeaCare has always been about Mariculture and Sustainable Development. As such we believe in this project and will match CanReefer's donations on a dollar for dollar basis up to $500 USD. I recently brought in a Fiji shipment for stores from Vancouver to Montreal. This was the last CITES permit from 2017 so was allowed. If the hobbyists and industry don't support this initiative then the Fijian Government will think we are just taking advantage of them and don't care about their reefs. They will not renew the CITES quota for 2018. This would mean no coral or rock exports. It could be the start of the end of wild coral collection as other countries would see what Fiji has done and do the same. So lets work together and support this heart felt endeavor that Walt and Deb Smith have worked so hard at over the years. Cheers, Tim

I think it would be best if you sent the donation directly to Walt Smith. Just mark in the comments section. From CanReef for matching by SeaCare.
