First I would like to say thanks to Rob for the sexy shrimps!! When I put them in I don't think they knew what to do first ("should we go left or right??" "How about down or up??" )

Tonight I made a very exciting discovery. I found these little yellow polyps and I think they are baby sun corals!! I'm guessing they have a pelagic larval stage? Does anyone have any experience with suncorals, do they multiply and grow fairly fast? Here are some pictures (sorry the pictures aren't very good, I don't have zoom on my camara, it's very old!) And there are some updated pictures as well.

Haha, I don't think you've got anything to worry about.
I've only got one nice tank and one nice mantis - looks like you've got me beat on both counts!

Aquariumgirl I'd have to say those are baby sun corals! Ive owned a few sun corals but ive never had that happen. However i've seen it happen in many ppl's tanks, usually they do that at night so u would never see it.

Once they get big enough try feeding them?

Theres a good thread on RC that shows an acan reproducing,in the lps forum

BTW if they are doing that in your tank, your definetly doing something wright!

I second that, you are definitely doing something right. Have you looked into whether or not they are just yellow polyps? That would be my first guess. Here is a link:

If they are an lps like a sun coral you will be able to see their skeleton.
Cheers,

They might be yellow polyps, they don't seem to be the same shade of yellow or look, then again I don't see a skeleton yet. But I was wondering if sun corals have skeletons right away or do they gradually form a skeleton as they get bigger. I've started to add kalkawasser drip to the tank, maybe that will help if they are sun corals. Either way they look neat!

I'm pretty sure they are sun's,they look orange even in the photo's.Also with your sun coral looking that plump and healthy, theres a good chance that they did reproduce! They also look like they are kind of in random spots and if they were yellow polyps they would share a mat.

If they are suns, you should feel pretty lucky that doesnt happen in many tanks.Sun corals when they reproduce non asexually start as a little nub of flesh so i would assume that they will develope a skeleton later!

Haha, it looks like there is a lot of interest in how this turns out! Don't get me wrong, I hope they are sun corals - because that would be a lot cooler. But they look just like any yellow polyps that I have seen (yellow polyps do not grow in a mat but pop up as individual polyps). Maybe BobI can shed some like of the subject if he stops by. I know that he has some.
Cheers,

- Chad
