I personally use H2Ocean and find it has been pretty consistent for levels. I usually test every 2nd batch of WC water I make up to check, however my tank is SPS dominant.

For a LPS/Softy tank, I think your best bang for the buck would be Reef Crystals.

I've been using IO and dosing Ca and Mg... I have never seen any sludge in the bottom of my bucket. I don't have SPS though, only softies and LPS.

No, back in the day I might have done the additives thing, but I don't even own any test kits anymore.
