FYI if you are on only as a guest it means you can look at other peoples posts, but you can not post anything yourself. You do not get to post until you become a member.

I think what VFX was saying is that you should possible have it so that a new member must start or respond to a few threads rather than joining, selling off something and then dissappearing. In other words just using the site as a buy+sell or a craigslist. Maybe not being able to go into the classified for say a week or two after joining?? I realize that buying and selling used equipment is a nice perk but it is really supposed to be a site for Q+A and support from other reef fanatics. I know it has been great for me, I have picked up so much information and have had some great suggestions for my system. Much more than the LFS would ever give me. So maybe a new member should still be on a trial basis?? Glad its not my decision..

What I am talking about is people not joining in the first place, you can't post questions, comments or sell anything if your a guest.

The topic of selling restrictions for new member has been well covered in the past and always ends up at the same place. I think CanReef wants to encourage board participation not restrict it.

That's basically what I was talking about but I think from lack of participation in this thread shows it's not a issue.

IMHO...out.

Um, all RO units have more waste coming out than good water

As for the having x number of posts before you can sell stuff, I think we've tried that before and end up with a bunch of random posts, then they sell their stuff and leave. Either way it doesnt' matter and people will find their way around the system.

As for people not joining, I've been told that people get very apprehensive about posting their first post. Many feel a bit intimidated I suppose. I'm not sure where that comes from as when I joined I just jumped right in and started asking questions. I guess I'm just not shy

I think the large number of "guests" is actually various bots or some sort of automated things from google and yahoo and stuff. Maybe Titus could chime in here and fill us in.

Yes i kknow this but im thinking the rate i have is not proper. the good water is a drip and the waste is a pressurized stream.

Whats wrong with guests, I say let people look and learn as much as they want, if they want to participate they will but theres no reason we should restrict knowledge to those who think they deserve it.

90%+ of those guests are Spam Bots. They troll forums, looking for email addresses and such posted in threads to spam the owner to death. Website links and other things too. Google spam bot is real bad for trolling. One of me Firebird forums, we can see which bots are searching what. Kinda interesting what big buisness will do to spy on peoples internet habbits

Yup, thats pretty much normal. Most RO sys are 4-5 times more waste, BUT, that depends on alot of factors. Water pressure, Water temperature, Prefilter condition, Membrane condition, size of restrictor capilary tube. I set my RO unit in sink, let waste run down drain, and fill 5g buckets. I am on a well and septic, and havnt had too much waste water issues. Water temp is a real big factor. Most RO sys are calibrated with 60 or 70*F water I belive. Running cold water drastically reduced the RO output, but running HOT ruins filters and membranes
