![]() Here's our fireworm contribution.
We finally caught this in December, when we were dismantling and re-assembling our reef. Our attempt at capture earlier in the year had resulted in the worm breaking in half, with both halves living. The red blade is 3 inches long.

![]() oh... so those are called fireworms? we had one similar to that when we first started our tank about 3 1/2 months ago. it looked really weird and only came out at night. but i haven't seen it in a long time. maybe it's dead or got eaten or something. is there any benefit in having that worm?... or are they just there because?

![]() Most of these worms are harmless and are useful in that they stir the sandbed and consume detritus. Once in a while you'll encounter one that has a bad habit of eating snails or clams. I've had a lot that were just fine, but I did have one about 2 feet long that ate my snails.
Basically, if you don't catch it doing bad things, it's probably good to have in your sandbed.
