Here's our fireworm contribution.
We finally caught this in December, when we were dismantling and re-assembling our reef. Our attempt at capture earlier in the year had resulted in the worm breaking in half, with both halves living. The red blade is 3 inches long.

oh... so those are called fireworms? we had one similar to that when we first started our tank about 3 1/2 months ago. it looked really weird and only came out at night. but i haven't seen it in a long time. maybe it's dead or got eaten or something. is there any benefit in having that worm?... or are they just there because?

Most of these worms are harmless and are useful in that they stir the sandbed and consume detritus. Once in a while you'll encounter one that has a bad habit of eating snails or clams. I've had a lot that were just fine, but I did have one about 2 feet long that ate my snails.
Basically, if you don't catch it doing bad things, it's probably good to have in your sandbed.
