Ok let’s play this out, $9800 divided by $200 this should buy me a 200 feet of this staff. And what do we get?
4 feet of acrylic + water pump and as a bonus free assembly… what a deal! LOL

Well 4 feet high skimmer x $200/f + the pump and assembly + whole shebang = 9800? Sweats on the brow hard earn Canadian bucks?
I think I will wait for a used one when it’ll go down to $6000 LOL.

If there is a penalty for money wasted this is first runner for it.

The “demand” word somehow does not apply, there are only 30+ millions of people in Canada, and how many are Billionaires? May be Saudi Arabia would be a good market for it?
I herd about someone had a silver Audi (made of silver), just a regular Joe Blow in Emirates.

But hey I was wrong before… may be there is a “demand” for 9800$ skimmers who knows?

What I alway find amazing is some people will pay a price just because someone else asks.

The thing with our society is that the prices of many things cannot be justified as per their material costs. Reputation, status and simply having the means to buy expensive things is enough for lots of people.

Most of us spend stupid money every day. I bought an arm band for my iPod, 2 strips of leather and a couple of pieces of velcro. $49.95. Cost of material, maybe $2..maybe? I paid out 24x that in profit to someone. Probably comparable to the skimmer. And it depends on what people want to do with their money. My bicycle is worth more than a lot of my friend's cars. They think I'm nuts, but I spend on what 's important for me. Some people will buy this skimmer, just because they want it. Don't see the big deal....

Oh, and thread moved out of reviews to lounge.

The diameter of that skimmer is greater than 18" and it's CAST acrylic. I used extruded's cost because it was the first result I could get a solid number on

Personally, I find it's more an issue of how much a given sum of money is really worth to a person. There's a lot of people out there who don't work for their money (eg. investors, business owners, ummm, shadier types, etc). To those people, $9k isn't a function of how many hours they spend to earn it, it's a matter of how good their portfolio is. Big difference in the "value" of money there.

Albert, we also need to figure the cost of startup for producing a limited number of a product. Molds, CNC machinery, R&D all need to be recovered over the forcasted number of units sold.
Look at what some people spend on watches, or eels, or koi...lots of items well over what some would consider "sane", but the for purchaser, certainly a good investment.

But then you'd need a huge skimmer. I bet it would be expensive.

Hmm, wonder how much a huge skimmer would cost? Any idea?
