DBA,

No doubt, glad to hear your still with us. Are you alergic to Bee stings?. I heard that some of us that are, can pay some serious consequences when owning a Lionfish .

DBA,

WOW! That must have been a scary experience.

Chicki,

As for using your mouth to start the siphon...I don't think it is a good idea. At least, I give my mother a hard time when she does it. I use one of those fuel siphons with the primer bulb. I would make sure that the siphon is clean before it is used.

Ya know, I have worked with fish, rotifers, artemia and algae. You gotta start a siphon at one point or another with all of them to clean a tank and invariably you get a mouthful (artemia is the worst :P). YOu know what they say: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

no im not alergic to bee stings, not allergic to anything really... as for siphoning your tank I dip a siphon into the tank and fill the large chamber while the tube is in the overflow bucket, I then lift the end of the large chamber out of the water and above the tank untill the water starts going down and comming out the overflow tube, when that happens I put the large chamber back in the tank open end up and it fills quickly, then you can vacume away like usual and you dont have to risk any bad water in your mouth, when that wont work because of space restrictions you can use a squeze pump with a one way valve that is inline on the overflow tube, I also use an extra inline pump to speed things up....

Took me a long time to figure out why I got tingling sensations on my fingertips after rearranging my tank. Today, I realize that I probably got that by touching my anemones. Never put 2 and 2 together before.
