![]() All the primer does is soften the PVC a little so when the glue bonds ot makes a better seal..
I used to install underground irragation at the local college The primer is meant for systems under pressure. Still it does not hurt to use it.. I have used the primer here as I know the joints will be perfectly sealed. Jim

![]() One of the things I learned today...yes, I learned more than one thing....is that the only reason some PVC primers are colored purple is so a building inspector can see that the plumbing has been installed with the cement and the primer. When the inspector sees the purple smeared on the pipe, they know primer has been used.
Soooo, if you don't plan on having your aquarium plumbing inspected, or don't have to, then the clear primer is the way to go, thus avoiding the ugly purple smears! Cheers,

![]() Yes the color has nothing to do with anything. its a visual thing.. When I was installing irragation at MRC it was easier to see where you primed by looking at it, much better than the clear stuff, you did not want to mess up priming a 4" main only to have it blow under pressure
