Hey! I never "LEFT" the hobby, just doing fresh water now. Which is still listed as part of Canreef if I'm not mistaken.

RO water is too pure, I used carbon filtered water and yes no air stone just a piece of rigid tubing.
the light should be ok if it came in mamroo's kit, he grows nice green phyto.
6500k cfl works good.
what phyto you growing?

most likely it has to brew for a longer period of time.what strain of phyto are you using?i use r/o water at 1.025 salinity run through an uv sterilizer.for a gallon of phyto i use about 3 ml of micro algae grow.lighting i made my own led strips using 1 watt leds(25 per strip)various cultures like different lights(nanochloropus-white/red,tetraselmus-red,isocrysis-blue-etc)i'm using aquamedic reactors for my cultures and rotifers
