20gal fuge and no skimmer yet.

![]() definatly get a skimmer, carbon needs water to be ran thru it in order for it to work. some make a little shelf under the drains in your sump but its wise to either use a filter sock on the drain or make another shelf just above the carbon shelve. clean it regularly. canister works as well but a pain to always take apart. BLACK DIAMOND is good and carbons longevity depends on water quality but lasts longer then 48hours. If you have lots of nice SPS becarefull not to burn them. when starting carbon it will make your water clear so reduce light by a few hours. just like acclimating a new coral. they will bleach if you don't. I've seen/read were people just start carbon and wonder why they get instant bleaching.
