'You mean like this...

http://sdmas.com/corals/species.php'

something a little less scientific and more hobby oriented would be better

Pictures of the fish or corals, preferred tank parameters (flow, lighting, etc)

Feeding or dosing requirements, etc

Most times when I am looking up fish or corals that I am unfamiliar with I end up at the LiveAquaria website...so something along those lines but not sales based would be very cool.

Hmm I didn't know about the live aquaria database. Would this this still be used if it was hobbyist oriented? It would be written by the community

That is a good reference Muck. The problem I find is vendors tend to name the corals instead of giving a scientific name(or the wholesalers don mark them) and furthermore everybody uses different lighting

i think this would be an amazing idea, sure there are hundreds of crappy websites online but the problem is that i have to navigate from website to website trying to find out if this fish is aggressive or not or if this coral needs this or this. i have to agree that i often find myself on libe aquaria because its really easy to navigate but the info seems incomplete.
i vote HECK YES!!!

The Zeovit Forums have a nice SPS area:

I think this extends to other corals and fish as well but I've only ever looked in the SPS one.

Is there interest in something like this? I could make it happen.
Just curious how you can make it happen? Marine biologist or something?

I am sure if it was as easy it that, the science community would have done it already... or has already somewhere.

But then again, there are a million resources online.

Interested to see what becomes of this.

I wonder... does anyone care enough to read signatures if you make them really small? I would not. I would probably moan and complain, read three words and swear once or twice. But since you made it this far, please rate my builds.

Haha I don't have to be a marine biologist when crowd sourcing information. It will be wiki style so you can add/update descriptions at your leisure. Then there will be a complete hobbiest reference on the Internet.
This is the plan anyways.
