Default What are you running your kessils at?

Just thought I'd put some feelers out there...

What size tank, types of lights and how much blue/intensity..... Controller ect...

I've got a 48x20x20 with 2x kessil a360we running 80% blue & I found at 90% intensity it's to bright. I had it at 60 and it wasn't enough.... So I'm at 70 now I think for a bit to see if the tank is happier than at 90..... Mine is run through an apex..

I'll check tomorrow how long my cycle is....

36x18x24 running 2 a360we on Apex. About 8 inches off the surface.

INT : 9am to noon, 10% to 90%. Noon to 2pm, 90% to 80%. 2pm to 11pm, 80% to 10%.

Colour : 9am to noon, 0% to 100%. Noon to 11pm, 100% to 0%.

SPS love it.

I'm even considering adding a couple T5's.

On my 4' I've got 2 of the 360we and I am looking at adding just a bit more light.... T5 24" 4x bulb..... Or another kessil.....

It's a tough call....

If I could find an ATI T5 2ft dimable in the exchange it would be easy....

But I think a kessil will be easier to find....

I say T5 just for the non-directional light....

I guess a MH on a goose neck would work also....

Hmmmm

On my reef the tank is 36x24x14 I run 1 kessil a360we %100 blue %12 intensity at 9am , turn it up at 11am to %100 blue %100 intensity up till 7pm then turn it down to %100 blue %12 intensity till 11;30 pm . The light is 7 inches from the water level . All my corals love it have a few sps , a ton of lps, , 20 or so zoanthid types , and a few rfa and a bubble tip nem .

How do you find the light coverage with one kessil over a 36" long tank? I've been thinking of upgrading my 20 long to a 40g breeder tank and am pondering lighting. The retailers I've looked at spec out the A360we at 24" light coverage and I'm a little leery as other LEDs I've owned didn't even come close to the stated light coverage area.

A150w Ocean Blue. I have it over my Squamosa clam and some sps (Purple Valida) and I don't have it on any controller so I'm assuming its running at 100%??? Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. Is 100% the fallback setting on older Kessils?

Its on for over 12 hours a day usually. Clam seems very happy to be blasted with light and the Purple Valida coloured up extremely quickly (less than a week after being most brown with purple tips from being on the bottom of seller's tank). The 150 is a low powered LED compared to newer Kessil models, and I probably wouldn't use those newer versions in the same way in terms of intensity and duration. Also, my experience has been that it's almost impossible to have too much light for clams and Purple Validas (the more light, the better the colour).

My tank is 24"x24"x12" deep and I run my A360w at 65%.

It makes a pretty big difference if you have the "w" (wide beam) model or the "n" (narrow beam) model. The latter obviously puts out more light intensity, but over a smaller area.

My kessil sits 6" off the water with with a depth of 18". It is running 55% on the colour knob and about 65% percent on the intensity knob. Once I get a cord for the Apex I will come back with better numbers. I may turn it up as I go.

But at the moment I am more interested in what PAR numbers are doing around the various corals. I picked up the par meter unit for the apex and have started to log brightness on the various corals. A few observations so far:

Meteor Shower par 120 under AI badly faded, now under Kessil at 80 starting to look happier after a week. Ive read these guys are good at about 50 par.

Superman chalice really happy at 120 par.

Mycedium Elephantotus not happy at 125 par now at 95 under Kessil.

Pink Pocillipora up around 300 par under a Evergrow 120 is happy and has great colour. It is maybe being pushed a little too hard? Likewise the green slimer and Hawkins nearby.

The Riddler is in a shadier spot at about 55 par and seems about right.

I suspect these numbers will change and evolve as I figure things out.
