Croceas can have scutes though. About 10 years ago I got chewed out on rec.aquaria.marine.reefs by Charles Delbeek because I said something similar about croceas not usually having scutes. I have 3 croceas and one of them has scutes ? They aren't super pronounced like maximas but they are clearly scutes

Well, typically you never see them with scutes.

Either way, thems is some sweet clams.

Wild one won't have them since they bore into rocks.
