![]() i got a blue ball very similar to that in my tank as well. when i looked at pics of hydroids they dont look the same...

![]() I can't say for sure from the pic but it sort of reminds me of a kind of cyanobaterium: like cotton candy algae. Have you touched or poked it? Is it spongey or hard or loosely intertwined? If there are polyps that retract, then it's hydroids but it seems weird for them to grow in a ball like that.
