i'm running a 70w mh with an electronic ballast, and it seems like it never wants to fire up by itself,...i hear it trying, and nothing...so i take the glass out of canopy, and make sure the bulb is sitting properly, and then try it, and it fires up....

What kind of fixture are you using? Maybe the bub isn't making a very good contact on one of the sockets.

I'm gonna guess it's an ARC ballast, save some headache, aromat ballasts are available on ebay. I gave up on my ARC, not worth the hassle sending it back repeatedly.
