![]() Those double yolk eggs are from older laying hens that have gone through their first cycle of laying, have gone through a fallow period, & are into their second laying cycle. These eggs tend to be larger but fewer & if you're lucky, you have double yolk eggs too.

![]() Well that's what we're here for right
![]() BTW, for those who haven't thought about it, Agricultural Science is a great faculty to join if you want to make great friends, have real life lessons & pick up all sorts of weird trivia. Not so great for getting a job in the city. ![]() Anthony, just curious
![]() ![]() Also, a friend told me that they most likely came from a farm with young hens b/c they lay smaller eggs. So, when they lay larger eggs they are almost alway double yolked and are bumped into the jumbo cartons ![]() Anyway, I was quite the suprise when we cracked the first few eggs and then my BF and I would make bets to see if they were all doubles, hehe. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Eggs are always sorted by size, so if you got some double yolked ones, then they were in a carton of jumbo eggs.
Unless you bought it from a farm, then they may just put whatever eggs were available/laid that day in a carton. I've had that happen to me. I'm really a fish guy (Aquaculture & Aquacultural Engineering) but my brain seems to retain all sorts of strange trivia. Anthony

![]() It's more a matter of what type of dietary fat you eat I believe. I love double yolked eggs for taste. Sadly, that many egg yolks would be a little too much fat for my diet. I usually mix 4 egg whites with my 2 whole eggs... ![]() |
