Not to say there isn't any but they are not as common of a tang in Hawaii as people thing because they see them included on Hawaiian shipments.

You must be confusing Z. flavescens with A. pyroferus. Z. flavescens comes from Hawaii and is collected around the Big Island.

concidering there has been a 10 year ban in effect (for the last 3 years) that prohibits the capture of Z. flavescens almost anywhere in the hawaii area I highly doubt it. it was almost wiped out localy and is starting to comback in protected areas but in the unprotected areas it is still declining in the Hawaiian chains.

Z. flavescens has a range that extends from Hawaii to Japan and so the boats are having to go farther away from Hawaii to catch them leagaly.

I hate to sit and argue about this...but why do I have Z. flavescens in my system. The US gov't has only decreased the collection area by about 30% a few years ago. There are still thousands of "yellow" tangs coming out of Hawaii every month. In fact, I should have a couple hundred coming in next week for myself.

I am trying to remember the name of it, but it was all over the place. at any rate with the yellow tang over the last 15 years having gone to Hawaii 2 or 3 times a year I have never seen one. and everything I read tells me they are not caught in local waters but rather a ways out, and that
when it sais Hawaiian tang on the order it just means that the colection point is Hawaii, weather or not that is true I cann't say.

If I can remember the name of the Brown one I will post it but the locals just refured to it as a brown tang last time I was asking about it.

Where in Hawaii did you vacation? I know our yellows are coming from the north side of the big island. The larger yellows are collected in about 20ft of water and the smaller ones are in about 90ft. Off Kona, the water drops off real fast so they don't have to go out that far. Yes, they are in Hawaiian waters.

I think that is a frigate I don’t know what nation it is from I would guess the US though if you have a hull number you can look it up on the US navy web site.
