Cleaning protein skimmer

Should I clean out the inside of my protein skimmer. Their seems to be some live creatures in the bottom of it. Could not cleaning it cause a build up of nitrites.

Cleaner skimmers always work better! For some reason a skimmer won't grab the proteins as well once there is a slime coat on the skimmer walls. Try soaking it in vinegar water for a few hours before cleaning it.
