![]() So shutdown the reef over the weekend. Know it's going to leave a whole in my life and living room so thinking about what's next. Always thought paludariums were interesting but don't want something that would cause concern if left for a week (or up to a month).
Question for those with paludariums, how would you compare to a reef tank maintenance wise?

![]() In terms of effort the ratio is about 1000 to 1 but I kept a few reef gadgets around to help out. I'm around 6 months in, zero losses and it continues to look better each day and I literally do nothing, just got back from 3 week vaca and zero issues. Had the kid up the street through frozen food in once a day just because the discuss don't all take pellets but away most weekends and they get nothing and doing fine.

![]() Yup, basically zero maintenance aside from the odd water change. Do yourself a favor and either get a plant with aerial roots (Peace lilies, spider plants, etc) or get some emersed plants that will put roots into the water. Also, cherry shrimp, get cherry shrimp.
I'm sure spit.fire will be here shortly with some pics and more details on the paludarium we set up a couple months back ![]()
