![]() My return simply returns water from the sump. I only have (maybe) 400gph, so regardless of how many lines I use, it's not adding to flow in any amount worth worrying about. The only time I used dual returns was on a 150g running a MAG 18, and even then the flow was minimal.
IMO, use the return pipe how it best fits and address flow using pumps designed for that.

![]() A centered overflow I feel would be SLIGHTLY more beneficial for surface skimming but that said an end overflow would be much less intrusive and allow for easier flow in the tank and less potential dead spots sooooooo at the end of the day I'd say they cancel out. Personally I'd go option one but this is just my thoughts.

![]() Yah, I was leaning towards option 1 as well. I guess it's like they say - more than 1 way to skin a cat.

![]() I would do option 2, just to avoid looking into the side of the overflow. Also has greater appeal for resale, I think. I almost did a corner overflow, but choose center. Shortly after the build, i decided on a different location for the tank and would have ended up with my viewing side having the overflow. Glad I went with center

![]() Multiple returns is a waste of time. The return flow from your sump will be negligible compared to the output from a few appropriately sized powerheads -- especially once it's been divided in half and run through additional elbow fittings. It would be like blowing through a straw to try to change the direction of air from a 14" fan.
I'd just go with a center overflow and have the return come through the overflow ![]()

![]() That's what I have, but I only run a single durso. Any concerns with a fourth hole in that location?

![]() Umm... Well, I'm of the opinion that a Beanimal overflow is like putting a piece of duct tape over top of a screw to hold two pieces of wood together tighter. So there's that.
But no, I'd have no concerns regarding structural integrity if the holes are properly spaced out and the glass is of the appropriate thickness.

![]() run a herbie, only 3 holes needed including the return, easier to plumb and just as fail safe / quiet
