Good review. I'm going to be doing something similar but with 3 of them. I have a coast to coast overflow in a 7' long tank by 36" front to back and 30" tall. I'm going to evenly space 3 of them across the back wall of the tank below the overflow. I know 3 is a lot but I'll be able to dial them down and provide an even gyre throughout the entire tank. I'm interested to see what happens to food when I add it to the water like this. Wondering if the gyre is going to cause the food to find its way right into the overflow or if it will cycle it around the tank a bit first.

I'm not worried about the food floating on the surface and going right into the overflow because the Gyres will be pushing water across the top of the tank away from the overflow. It's once the food flows down the front window of the tank, across the bottom and then back up the back wall. I'm curious if the Maxspect will grab it and spit it out again or if much of it will find its way into the overflow.

I thought about the possibility of mounting the Gyre on the overflow but then I thought about surface skimming. ideally we want the flow in our tanks to suspend detritus and direct it to the overflow for skimming. If one were to mount the Gyre under the overflow teeth I think it would push the detritus away from the teeth. The wall of water coming from the pump is quite significant. Maybe the thing to do would be have the one on the overflow set in reverse so that it sucks water toward the overflow instead of pushing away from it...
When I feed I shut down my return, my Gyre is opposite my overflow. I was playing around and added food right in front of it at 70% and I watched a few pieces travel all the way across to the overflow then come back again along the bottom quarter of the tank then get sucked into the Gyre and spat all the way across again....

Put my new Gyre in the tank today. Its very nice. I have a 7' peninsula and 12000gph on the overflow end but only about 900 - 1000gph flow on the open end from the returns. Its always frustrated me, but tank is doing well. Now I mounted the Gyre right at top on open end we'll see how it changes things up. I have it so high up that anything over 30% sucks air in so just testing at low right now.
Crazy flow when on high though.

and yes I heard from the manufacturers there will be APEX integration.

I know they don't recommend it but what about putting it on the overflow side, upside down and at the bottom of the tank? There will be plenty of velocity to get detritus moving and it'll be at the lowest velocity when passing by the overflow. This probably would be a disaster if not in a bare bottom tank.

I went and picked up my new and improved mount today (it was delivered last week to my studio). The pump is now DEAD SILENT. I wasn't able to run pulse mode past 50% before because of the ramping up and down. Now I can go %100 without a peep. (if my tank could stand it which it can not)

I am really impressed with the way Maxspect took care of us early adopters... totally classy!
