Thanks guys.

In the beginning when it happened I did quite a few large water changes and manually removed as much of the rotting food as possible from the tank. That was the end of July and early August. The rest of August I focused on manually removing the cyano, at first every day, and later every 2nd day.

Now I'm at the point where I blow off the cyano every 2-3rd day, and I usually scrape my glass concurrently. I used to only have to clean my glass approximately every 10 days. The last piece of the puzzle is dialing in my parameters; my system sucks back magnesium like no tomorrow and I'm constantly needing to bump my dKH right now. The fine tuning of parameters on a system this size is not that fun sometimes.

Low magnesium this morning after skipping testing Friday through Sunday. I need a better way than dosing to maintain my magnesium.

Mg per 100ppm @ 700g = 11 cups Mag. Sulphate or 9 1/3 cups Mag. Chloride

Consumption of mag though is very little in respect , even in large tanks , ppm is still ppm ......unless mag is removed.

It's most likely the water changes and low mag amount in the salt

what's the drop daily?

Chloride and sulphate mix I assume?

How and when do you dose , a 100ppm even monthly is very high

Salinity is correct and calibrated?

What Salt mix?

me?

My mag dropped to 1240ppm this morning an hour after lights on. I'm just hand dosing right now to get things back into line (1300-1350ppm) as my tank works through this surge. Then it will be back to the dosing pump and daily "top offs". It will probably take me 4-10 days, of hand dosing, to get it back where I like it.

The usual daily drop is less than 10ppm, but over 5ppm, if we assume test kits to be THAT accurate. This "growth" spurt isn't usual in that the draw is higher, but it's not wholly unexpected as it does seem to happen, the spurts, with a certain regularity.

My clams have some giant new ridges that developed significantly over the last week. (Finally, they haven't done much growing since July) There is quite a bit of new coraline algae on the rocks and glass in my refugium since last weekend, my LPS and somke SPS are growing, the LPS much faster than SPS.
