![]() I am curious to know what good/bad experiences people have had with the use of Melafix Marine in their mixed reef tanks (fish, LPS, SPS).

![]() So I take it no one has ever used this product? Or am I not supposed to discuss this here?

![]() Seriously ****es off inverts and corals when used. Never had it kill them.
Makes the skimmer go crazy. Other then that no ill effects any times ive used melafix/pimafix in the tank. |

![]() Thanks for the info! I guess it may help qualify the question as I have observed since medicating my tank that my frogspawn isn't happy and every time I dose the tank it seems to effect the CU crew.

![]() I've tried using Melafix many years ago in a quarantine tank on a few occasions and didn't find that the pseudo-medication actually did anything to cure the disease. I don't think the recipe has changed since.

![]() I assume that tea tree oil can't pass through the gills because its definitely toxic if you swallow it that or its super dilute (it really irks me that aquarium product manufacturers feel that they don't have to put concentrations on their bottles >:l ).
The stuff might actually help lesions heal, hard to say if you're casually observing. I have cuts heal all the time without putting polysporin on them, would putting polysporin on them help? Very probably but I've certainly never "noticed" a difference.

![]() You'd be better off using real medications, IME.

![]() As a < 1 year reefer forgive my lack of knowledge but when you refer to "real" meds are we talking prescription or vet supplied meds? Are there consumer available treatments? My next post has more info and a video that hopefully will help what I was trying to treat. After trying to capture my clowns when moving from my 55 to the new 90 I felt capture would cause more damage more of my reef and stress the clowns over the edge. I understand the use of copper in a hospital tank has worked for some.
