Try the adhesive for automotive rear view mirror mounting. You should be able to get it at any decent auto parts shop. It makes a pretty strong bond between the metal mirror base and the windshield and is clear.

That's what I was going to suggest. Or clear two part epoxy. Either might look a little globby if you use too much but if it's going to cost hundreds of dollars to fix you may think it doesn't look too bad.

The rear view mirror epoxy worked like a charm
Coffee table is set up , 1 more load to move then just unpacking
I got a couple projects to do then the tank build will start
