I just installed windows 8 on the HTPC I'm building.. can't say I like it yet but once things are up and running I'll never see it.

This is what solved my issues with Windows 8. Works just about the same as Windows 7 now.

ponokareefer - glad it helped

I'm having a hard time seeing why people dislike Win8 so much. Enterprise level stuff has become a total hassle..thats another topic all together with Win7/8.. but for everyday use Win8 is much better than Win7. Resource management is much better, boot speed is much better (with a SSD my bootup time is under 5 seconds).

If you have a start menu, such as classic shell I cant see much difference from Win7. Now if you like WinXP over 7 I will say nothing about that but Win8 has better overall experience than Win7 so if you alrdy have 7 going to 8 can only benefit you. The only issue I had with win8 when it first came out was driver issues, but now that its been out for a while most product manufactures has fixed up driver issues.

So far from my experience I'm quite liking windows 8, one you have classic shell it's like having windows 7 but with more features

Likes:

comparing my windows 7 desktop running 8g of ram, i5 processor (3.0ghz quad core) with ss hard drive to my laptop running the same everything (except 2.7ghz quad core i5 and no solid state drive) the windows 8 machine seems quite a bit faster

Tons of features

Works just like windows 7

Works flawlessly on my tablet using splashtop

Dislikes:

The whole swipe to open random tool bars

Windows 8 has a stupid "charms bar" on the right side....there is a way to disable it but you would have to go into the registry and edit some stuff. A simple google for "disabling charms bar" will get you the results you need to "kind of" remove it".

If you run dual monitor or triple (I do for work and home) you will find that your mouse, if dragged near the top of the screen towards the right will get stuck on the edge of every screen connected. That was how you pulled up the charms bar, but the regedit simply just disables it from running but that function is still there.
