- Introducing Atlantic Blue tang and getting Marine Velvet as a "bonus".
- Clams spawning and turning tank into white cloudy, stinky mess.
- Holding live rock for someone as a favour and it turns out to have hair algae/aiptasia which then spreads to your display tank.
- Keeping too many "ick magnet" fish in the same tank.
- Bad salt (anybody remember the Kent salt disaster?)
- Having a boxfish or cowfish or large sea cucumber die and wipe out the tank.
- Relying on an undependable (i.e. stupid) fish-sitter while you're on vacation.
- Having visitors with kids who dump a whole container of food into your tank.
