I agree with this. There could be different criteria for each month such as softy or LPS dominated, 20g and under, etc. Not everyone keeps SPS or has the space and time for a huge tank but still have excellent tanks. I bet more people would be inclined to share photos of their tanks then as well.

I believe it's not a Sps thing there have been a couple zoa dominated tanks in the near past. As for size the current one is only a 90 so it's not a nano but not a monster tank either.

We don't base any of our TOTMs on certain criteria. Mostly we just look around on various threads and whoever has posted tank pics recently gets thrown in the pile. We like to feature active members and not base anything on tank size, contents etc. Mostly if we see a nice looking/unique/techy etc tank by an active member we feature it. It seems to me we have less people posting photos of their tanks but I dunno, maybe I'm just not paying attention enough

As for various other things like featured member and such, its just a matter of time that we don't seem to have anymore. Four out of the five moderators have small children that just take up too much of our time at the moment so a few things, like the TOTM, have had to be scaled back. I used to have a ton of free time for things like TOTM and the reference library but man, kids just suck whatever free time you have.

Definitely keep the ideas coming though, its likely we can pull some of them off on a smaller scale. I am really liking a quarterly featured member idea, even if its just a nomination and tag next to their name

I find the same thing also that is why I suggested having some modest criteria now and then so people who don't have extravagant tanks may feel more inclined to post pics of their tanks. It doesn't have to be through TOTM though, there could be other incentives.

Well we've always encouraged people to post tank photos and not just for TOTM (some think they're just posting tank photos FOR TOTM). Its not a contest, its just a showcase. I don't really know what other incentives we could offer, the idea is just to share tank photos because you want to share your tank with everyone. I don't think there should necessarily have to be a reward (although its nice )

I think people are starting to post less since they don't have the time to hear BS from some people. Honestly, this hobby is becoming more like "follow the strict laws" than "enjoy what you love to do". Just my 0.05 (0.02 is no longer valid )

I wasn't really refering to a reward, maybe "incentive" was a bad choice in wording. Doing a forum just for tank photos with sub-forums such as LPS dominated, under 1 year, etc. would perhaps encourage more tank photos. It would also save time for the mods to go searching through all threads. I would like to say that it could be made so that members could rate photos (hence the incentive to get good ratings) to encourage some effort but I could see that possibly turning negative too and defeating the purpose. Just an idea, I have no clue whether it would actually encourage more photos or not.
