Of course, a person could have two 2,000 gallon tanks, and if their house was as large as Bill Gates', it would make them look like, well, not fanatics. So it's a bit of a tough measure to put in perspective.

Right, I agree its not a perfect formula, but the point is that if those same 2 2,000 gallon tanks belong to someone with a 1000 sq ft home, then you can tell the latter is slightly more of a fanatic since he has dedicated more space and money to his hobby relative to his home and other expenses. IE. The first person has spent relatively more money on other non-aquarium things compared to the 2nd person.

2 tanks - .041 (big house, small tanks?)

...let's keep this in perspective, people!

Yeah, OK, a better indicator would have been percentage of net income spent on the aquarium but then one can argue that people with more income have more money to spend on luxuries and so that's not a good indicator either. Well, this way (gallons per sq feet) is more fun anyways. My perspective, which you and I agree of course, is that this thread is just for fun.

Every measure needs a qualifier... post your gallons per square foot as well as total square footage, and then scale everyone against a 2000 square foot benchmark.

we have an old post war house downtown kelowna, only about 900sq/ft, with a display in the livingroom totaling over 1500 gallons, plus some other smaller stuff.... then the garage will house the 7500+ shark tank, and a few thousand gallons of other holding tanks, garage will only be about 450 or so sq feet, lots of gallons per sq feet and it looks like even more cuz the place is soo small...

there goes Quinn again...

I agree with Sam, but an even better indicator than this or % of net, might be Time Spent... this is priceless and weighs against our other priorities (such as job and family, for instance) and might tell more about us than we're comfortable with.

Ok well I'm 0.075 gal/ft^2. 1% of my house is aquarium if you pretend my tank is a flat surface. Does that make sense? I think I lost myself.
