People wanting to get their thread back up to the top of the list use it, esp in the for sale forum. All they need to do is type something, and most type "bump". Magically their thread goes to the top of the pile

The new style of forum (phpBB, ezBoard) moves the most recently replied-to threads to the top. Threads that aren't replied to can get lost on busy forums. So people bump them to ensure they stay near the top of the list, where they are more likely to be seen.
