I'd go with a hang-on closed loop with one center inlet and two corner returns running on a mag3.
I'm running a similar setup using a mag5 on my 15g with the addition of a scwd. It's absolutely perfect! It looks really clean, has just the right amount of flow and most importantly on a nano there are no powerheads in the tank adding heat. E.
