Default New Guy here! WTB aprox. 20lbs. live rock (Victoria)

Hi Guys ,
I'm just setting up my 20 gallon nano. I'm new to the whole salt water thing and I'm finding this forum to be really informative, and a big help so far. I'm looking to start adding some rock to my tank and I'm wondering if anyone has any rock they want to sell or if anyone can suggest a good place to buy rock.
Thanx
Paul

Welcome to the board, Paul. There are a couple of stores locally that sell rock, or you could always mail order from J&L. For 20 pounds, you might want to pay a bit more for the luxury of hand picking the "right" rocks. Not much around town for private sales right now, but maybe someone has some extra they might want to part with.

You will have to pay about $10/lb here - or about half that at J&L - plus shipping. If you are driving over to Vancouver anyway, you can save a few bucks.

J&L do not have their new store fully set up - they have about 200 tanks but only some of them are running - was there 10 days ago, and they had a variety of live rock.

I bought some at Hillside and it was very good with lots of coralline. Seems like a lot of $$ for rocks, though, doesn't it?

Did you try "negotiating" a better price? Although $10/pound for very good rock with lots of coralline that you get to hand pick isn't too bad. I used to pay about $20/pound 10 years ago!!

I did get a good discount, but I bought quite a lot. It was from Bali - they also had some Marshall Island rock in plates for about $12 - lots of worms on it. Plus some aiptaisia!! (vinegar and lime juice injection worked)

I know in the US a lot of LFS will charge $10 or $12 US. At J&L you can get it for as low as $4.59 CN - which is about as cheap as anywhere in N. America, I think. Or, even as low as $3.79 CN if you buy a lot.
