Default Clown's

I have a False Percula and a Maroon Clown and would like to get a True Black Percula from J&L. Does anyone know how the two I have would get along with another? They are buds with the Flase being the larger one at about a 1.5" long (not very big). Once in awhile they spend lots of time together and are chasing each other in twists and circles. Not sure if they would pair up but it seems they have shown some interest. Seeing that mine are small would it be possible the the farmed clowns would be small enough?

Im just starting out and was thinking about stocking similar to your self with a couple species of clown's, but eveything ive been reading would suggest that you must choose only one type of clown, because the biggest species will eventually kill off the smaller one's.
in your case the Maroon clown will eventually rule the day becuse of his size.
"Qote" Ocellaris(false Percula) Clownfish can be kept in groups, at least until pairs form and new homes must be found for the extras.
This taken from the book, THE NEW MARINE AQUARIUM. By Michael S. Paletta. Good luck though.

I have read that you can keep more than just a pair and the third would just stay a Juv. and would not be close to the pair. I was not sure if they would have to be the same type of Clown. Mind you I seem to have a possible rare pairing of a Maroon and False. My False Percula is the larger of the two and is the more dominant one.

Fishfogg, if you are in Regina you are more than welcome to look me up. Just send me a PM before you come.

Well nothing saying that books always get things right, but it does say thta's a no no. Mabey you will prove them wrong.

I will be in regina some time in the next two weeks, to buy some L.R. was thinking of getting the stuff from Petcetera, only need 25 pounds.
It's for a 29g bow front, i figure i will learn from this one till next fall or so, then i will covert my 200g fresh into a reef for next winter. And turn my 29g into the nurse tank.
What's your thoughts, also let me know when petland opens
Thanks.

I wouldn't add another clown. The mix of A. ocellaris and P. biaculeatus can be done, and has been (see the links below), but adding a third fish to what is likely an established pair may be pushing your luck too far. There are people on this board with multiple pairs of clownfishes in one tank but they are either in very large tanks (Steve, a pair of A. ocellaris and a pair of A. percula) or are species known to be relatively docile (Bev, a pair of A. percula or A. ocellaris, and a pair of A. sandarcinos). Similarly, keeping groups of A. percula or A. ocellaris seems to be fairly common in the hobby, but these animals would most likely be siblings, introduced to the tank at the same time.

Also, for what it's worth, the "true black percula" being sold by J&L is actually A. ocellaris. There is no pure black variant of A. percula. So I guess they should label it "true black false percula", although "black A. ocellaris" would be more accurate.

Marcus, take a browse through the three sections on marine fish at http://www.wetwebmedia.com/marine/fishes/index.htm. There are lots of nice angels, basses (anthias perhaps), wrasses there, you might find something that warrants further research and possible acquisition.

Thanks for the link Teevee, I have looked at some Wrasses and Anthias but I think they may be a bit hard for me to keep until I get better experience. Its hard to find the fish that will be the "center piece" and reef safe while being easy to care for.
