The second link I posted is good for a small laugh I guess, but the first one is dead serious. By supporting Invisible Children you are funding the Ugandan militia which might not be what you want (if it's what you want then I guess don't listen to me but at least make an informed decision).

For what it's worth, I fell for this yesterday as well. It's hard not to get caught up in it. Warlords are bad! I'm sure Kony is a terrible person and needs to brought to justice. But supporting Invisible Children (which you do by even sharing the link) might not be the most appropriate avenue to that goal.

The reality is that this is a chain letter ("bad things will happen if you don't immediately share this with your friends and family!") and EVERY chain letter is something you should look at with a healthy dose of suspicion and skepticism.

The sad truth is that there are many, many similar organizations under the guise of charity or some noble movement, ready to take your money to further their own interests or occupation. This includes Hollywood celebrities or athletes trying to improve their image. And some are just scams. The internet and social networking has made this just so much easier for them.

I don't know whether Kony 2012 is legit or not, but would do a little more research before sending them my money. There are enough legitimate charitable organizations (like the Red Cross) that I would trust before taking a chance on these guys.

Why do people always become negative? Did you even know about him 3 days ago? No! So for the most part its absolutely great. As far as where they're money goes I heard a blurb on the news and they're getting critized for putting to much money towards education in usa. Main thing is awareness now we think its bad and the governments might do something.

I would like to believe Kony 2012 is legit, but when I watched the vid, a few things just didn't make sense, and a few flags went up for me. And now I read this. Hard to know what to believe, but like I said, better orgs to trust with your money IMO.

I'm not negative except when it comes to being manipulated, and this video, make no mistake, is manipulating you. If you decide to investigate this non-profit organization and independently come to the conclusion that this is worthy of your support - then go for it. But if you just watch the video and share it and/or support them financially without a shred of any kind of scrutiny beyond your emotional reaction beyond watching the video - then you have been played. If that doesn't bother you .. then OK. Suit yourself. It bothers me however. Plus there are a number of other issues beyond the whole chain letter aspect that raise a huge number of red flags for me.

And come on. Before this video you didn't know there were warlords in Africa that do terrible things? That seems doubtful. Sorry.

Actually, Ok, I'll concede you this point. If you educate yourself and independently come to the conclusion that you want to do something to help, and/or educate others .. then that is a GoodThing(tm). But the difference there is that you've made an informed choice. If I ask anything of anyone, it is that.

I researched the invisible children foundation a bit before I went onto my "stickit" duty. I WILL NOT be purchasing anything from them nor donating anything to them. The video is still a good one however and I do believe that making Kony "famous" will bring awareness. If the government sees that the people care then maybe they will too. However, look how that is going for our own children in the Bill 22 war. If they don't care about our kids, why would they care about others.
