If it developed recently it could be multiple factors.
most common: bad ground bad door/hood/trunk pin It could be dead. but its more likely that it would just stop working. Take it to a shop that specializes in start/alarm. the last thing you should ever do is take it to a mechanic. they are programmed to say its broken and take it out.
