These reputation points sound like a popularity contest.

I think the mods added it so they can sit back and watch us all fight! With so many different opinions on the boards I can see a whole lot of people negatively affecting people's reputation just because their opinion differs. Hmmm...

No, Titus came up with this for some reason I don't fully understand

I think it was to avoid first time posters posting for sale ads, or some such silly stuff. I've been away for a week, so not fully caught up.

I think Titus has a good idea here but might need a tweak or 2 like adding the user name of the person who added / subtracted from your rep but there might have to be a dispute panel added as well because of things like Myka stated with dirrerence of opinions.

I've seen it used on other boards and for the most part it seems to work out. You can't negative rep someone over and over again, it has to be spread around. People generally seem to use it as gesture of thanks.

Not that anyone persons opinion is less valuable then anyone elses but it can be reafirming to have your questions answered by a respected member of the board. From time to time it could be used as a popularity contest but it's pretty hard for one person to have a significant negative impact. You have to take the good with the bad and I think the good on this board far outweighs the bad.

At the end of the day people that use this site on a regular basis know who people are. Doesn't matter who has big points, no points or negative points if even possible. People won't change who they are because of a rating system. Geez I should have checked what I had before I made this post...
