I used to get arowanas to take pellets by soaking them in the frozen food like shrimp and feed a bit of each till they get used to the scent and texture.
I think it would be the same???

What does he eat now? If he's eating frozen foods, start soaking the frozen foods in garlic (like Kent Garlic Extreme) which is good for the fish anyway, then soak the pellets in garlic too. Hustler has good advice as well.

I mixed my pellets with frozen food for feedings, and bit by bit increased the amount of pellets per feeding while decreasing the amount of frozen food until the feedings only involved pellets. It has seemed to be a formula that has worked well for me for most of my fish.
