I've signed up for the July 15 - 17 course at Ocean Sport on Whyte. Going with my wife and a friend. My friend knows a couple of people that have gone there and enjoyed it. If you sign up with a friend you can get a discount. If you are free that weekend then tag along. Just tell them you're my friend and they'll give you the discount (hopefully). I'm sure late-coming sign upper friends will still get a discount.

Last fall went through Ocean Sports (store on Whyte Ave), partly because of the recommendations, partly the pool they use is at NAIT so was convenient (I'm in the far NE).

Ended up just doing the pool portion here and the Open Water in the Philippines. Was somewhat concerned that would be wasting my holidays taking lessons overseas but was more a review then 4 great dives. Some discussion here.

I took my PADI Open Water at Ocean Sports in Edmonton as well. It was back in 2007 but if Marty and Brent are still there they were great instructors.

I really enjoyed the course. If you aren't that comfortable under the water I would recommend you do the 6 week program if you have the time. It just gives you a lot more time to practice the skills. I also did my certification dives with them out at Lake Annette in Jasper.

As Mark mentioned though you can do your certification dives pretty much anywhere there is diving as they are pretty quick and easy to get done. I did my NAUI Advanced certification in Honduras... a bit warmer than Lake Annette
